Subsea Motor FAQs

What are subsea motors used for?

Subsea motors are used in a variety of applications that require continuous, reliable operation under deep water. Our subsea motors are rated at depths up to 3,000m and are ideal for seawater injection, multi-phase boosting, crude oil boosting, offshore oil and gas operations, produced water re-injections, and other deepwater power solutions such as seabed machinery, deep-sea mining, and more.

Are your subsea motors environmentally friendly?

Yes. To provide cooling of the stator and lubrication to the fluid-film journal and thrust bearings of the motor, we use glycol as opposed to oil. Glycol will not jeopardize the marine environment in the unlikely event of a mechanical seal leak, making our pumps and motors one of the world’s safest for ocean environments.

How long does a subsea motor last?

Hayward Tyler subsea motors are made to be low-maintenance and long-lasting. They have been tested to last up to 40,000 hours between maintenances.

What is the difference between a subsea motor and a submersible motor?

Submersible motors are designed to operate fully submerged in water, typically used to pump water, while a subsea motor is specifically designed for underwater use in deep ocean environments up to 3,000m. Subsea motors can withstand extreme pressure and harsh marine conditions, while submersible motors are generally used in shallower depths.

What is the horsepower of a subsea motor?

Our high power, high voltage designs can be custom made to your specific application, with power up to 8,000 hp and speeds up to 6,000 rpm.
