Field testing for pumps and motors can identify and diagnose operational issues or verify your equipment is working efficiently and meets its operational requirements.
Pump Condition Assessment
A pump condition assessment is a “checkup” for your pump and measures hydraulic performance and vibration levels versus expected levels, to determine if the pump needs maintenance or repair. Some of the key benefits this assessment offers are early detection of potential problems before they can cause costly unplanned downtime, and valuable information on maintenance activities that can be prioritized and optimized.
Vibration Testing
Vibration analysis for pumps and motors can reveal important information about their mechanical condition and help identify problems before they become disasters. With advanced techniques such as Spectral Analysis, Modal Analysis, and Operating Deflection Shapes (ODS), we can precisely monitor and detect issues such as imbalance, bearing failures, misalignment, bent shafts, and more.
Spectral Analysis
A high percentage of rotating equipment issues can be identified through Spectral Analysis, which provides us with a picture of a vibration’s frequency vs. amplitude, known as its spectrum. When vibrations occurring at specific frequencies are identified and tracked, we can illustrate how the spectrum changes with time. This allows us to identify peaks in the frequencies that indicate the root cause of the vibration, such as a hydraulic issue or rotor imbalance.
Modal Analysis
An advanced method for understanding the resonant frequencies of mechanical structures, Modal Analysis can identify and locate problems that other types of vibration analysis may miss. We can test the natural frequencies and mode shapes of your installed equipment to identify if issues are arising. We can offer design upgrades/changes to solve these issues. Resonant vibration can contribute to a wide range of pump and motor problems, including accelerated component wear and premature failure.
Operating Deflection Shape (ODS)
We conduct ODS analysis to visualize the vibration pattern of equipment, during its operation, as it is influenced by its own operating forces. With analysis performed at a specific frequency or at a moment in time, it determines vibration mode shapes as well as internal and external excitation forces. ODS evaluation can be especially helpful in the analysis of a pump or motor with particularly high internally-generated forces.
Flow Measurement
Measuring the flow rate of fluid as it travels through piping provides critical insight into the performance of your pumps. This allows us to compare the pump flow rate to the original design to identify any operational deviations before they become pump or motor problems.
Thermal Imaging
Thermal imaging is a powerful diagnostic tool for measuring temperature distributions inside equipment to identify the hottest areas. It allows us to understand the internal temperatures of your equipment while it is operating, to detect issues before they become a problem. It is particularly valuable for troubleshooting heat, pressure, and velocity issues. Using an infrared camera, we are able to:
- Identify potential issues, such as hot bearings, valve leaks, and plugged coolers
- Compare images with duplicate equipment
- Establish a baseline for trending
