The Service Mechanical Design and Support Engineer is a key role within the Service Value Stream (SVS). The Service Mechanical Design & Support Engineer supports our customers through the service process for both OEM and non-OEM, critical-to-operation pumps and motors. The SVS provides maintenance, repairs, and support for HTI’s customers in a wide range of applications and pump types. The SVS process is designed to provide value-creating steps for our customers, while providing shorter lead times, lower costs, higher reliability, and lifetime service support.
Job Description and Duties
Principal Duties:
Provide a high level of non-supervisory engineering work involving broad assignments relating to the Service business of Hayward Tyler.
Principal duties performed in collaboration with the Lead Aftermarket Design Engineer, Aftermarket Value Stream Manager, or Engineering Manager consists of, but are not limited to:
• Responsible for executing shop Service-related work to meet department goals.
o Reviewing inspection reports and corresponding components to assess their as-found condition and determine the required mechanical and/or electrical repairs for customer pumps and motors.
o Creating costing sheets to calculate price associated with scope of work, while working with Supply Chain and Operations to obtain accurate material costs and labor hours.
o Authoring customer inspection reports detailing the recommended work scope and pricing.
o Translating scope of work into Job Travelers, which include work instructions for the Operations team and material demands for the Supply Chain team.
• Under guidance from Aftermarket Design Engineers, providing technical assistance to the Operations team to assist in achieving specified design requirements and resolution of conflicts that arise in attaining the specified design or contractual obligations for Service jobs.
• Preparation and checking of manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and procedures. Many of these activities require close collaboration with Mechanical Designers, Quality Assurance, Inspectors, and Operations personnel. This may involve:
o Reverse-engineering non-OEM pump and motor components to applicable design code and customer specifications.
o Reviewing and updating legacy documents and drawings to ensure compliance consistent with HTI current standards.
o Reviewing Engineering Change Requests from the Operations team and presenting disposition to Aftermarket Design Engineers to be implemented
• Provide technical support to end users for the installation, operation, maintenance, and technical oversight of HTI manufactured equipment, as well as non-OEM units.
• Disposition Discrepant Material Reports, for review by Aftermarket Design Engineers, relative to both non-code and ASME Code Section I, III, VIII, and Safety-Related Aftermarket Service components.
• Identify and assist in the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives under guidance of the Lead Aftermarket Design Engineer.
To perform the assigned duties, it is necessary to have well-developed analytical skills as it applies to rotating mechanical equipment design and analysis. A fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles is also essential, including mechanical design, material selection, and other disciplines such as material science, electromechanical engineering, vibration, and failure analysis. Competency in reading, understanding, and translating customer technical requirements enables Service Mechanical Design and Support Engineer to arrive at reasonable, timely, and cost-effective solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the field of industrial rotating machinery such as pumps, turbines, compressors, hydraulics, or other mechanical devices.
• Engineering work in centrifugal pumps a plus.
• Experience with manufacturing ERP systems.
• Exposure to MathCad.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other related field.
• 2-3 years of work experience in engineering and analysis
• Ability to produce, read and/or interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications.
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Detail oriented, organized, and highly motivated.
• Mechanically inclined, with strong technical and machine shop knowledge.
• Proficiency in the use of inspection tools.
• Continuous improvement mindset.
• Competency in SolidWorks and GD&T practices.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and the Internet.
