The Engineering Manager leads the Engineering Department, which acts as the technical authority of the business. The role is responsible for developing, designing and delivering technically sound and commercially viable solutions to meet customer requirements. This includes overseeing engineering outputs, managing engineering resources, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.
This is a senior role with responsibility for people leadership, technical governance and the overall performance of the engineering function.
What you will do:
Leadership & Department Management
• Lead, manage and develop the Engineering Department, including recruitment, performance management and skills development.
• Manage multiple engineering resources and projects to ensure delivery against business objectives.
• Inspire, mentor and grow engineering capability within the team.
• Develop department plans, resource requirements and performance reporting to support operational and strategic objectives.
Engineering Delivery & Technical Authority
• Take overall responsibility for engineering output, including design quality, lead times and technical compliance.
• Provide technical direction and approval for designs, design changes and engineering solutions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering codes, standards and contractual requirements.
• Support customer enquiries and bid activity by providing technical expertise.
Project & Stakeholder Management
• Coordinate engineering activities across departments to ensure seamless handovers and project delivery.
• Work closely with management, production and commercial teams to meet customer and business requirements.
• Analyse technology, market demand and resource needs to assess project feasibility.
Quality, Health & Safety
• Ensure the engineering function complies with ISO 9001 and supports the continuous improvement of the quality management system.
• Take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of all team members, ensuring safe systems of work and compliance with HS&E requirements.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement through structured problem solving and performance measurement.

What you will need:
Essential requirements
• Degree, higher or advanced apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Extensive experience in mechanical engineering design and analysis within industrial rotating machinery (e.g. pumps, turbines or compressors).
• Strong leadership capability, with experience managing and developing engineering teams.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, with the ability to carry out manual and finite element analysis.
• Strong understanding of engineering codes, standards and regulatory requirements (including ASME Section VIII).
• Excellent communication, organisational and problem solving skills.
Desirable
• Experience within power generation, oil & gas, nuclear or chemical process industries.
• Knowledge of ASME III, Norsok or API standards.
• Leadership or management qualifications.
• ERP system experience (e.g. Epicor).
