Vacancy Short Description:
As an apprentice to Hayward Tyler, you will be trained to become a skilled operative with training in core areas such as assembly and dismantlement of large rotating equipment, using various hand tools.
Qualifications Required:
You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4 including English, Maths, and Science, or equivalent, or a technical subject such as Engineering or Product Design. Alternatively, you can progress from a relevant Level 2 Intermediate apprenticeship programme.
You will be asked to complete an application online and if successful you will be invited for a further assessment. This will involve you undertaking a number of tasks that will show us how well you work under a little pressure as well as when you are part of a team.
If you are successful, we will be looking for you to start your new career with Hayward Tyler in early September 2025!

As an apprentice to Hayward Tyler, you will be trained to become a skilled Engineering Fitter with training in core areas such as, interpreting drawings/specifications for required components or assemblies, refurbishing/fault finding and problem solving, using various tooling & equipment, quality checking/testing and calibration of units/components.
The Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship is aimed at people who wish to gain real engineering qualifications as well as practical on the job skills. This is achieved through a combination training/tuition and work-based learning activities.
Please note, whilst not confirmed, the training provider for this apprenticeship may be based in Northampton and applicants will need to be able to get to this location on a weekly basis.
The 4 Year Apprenticeship programme is structured in partnership with the college and is organised as follows:
Year one:
Gaining skills in understanding, reading engineering drawings, basic assembly and dismantlement, hand tools/techniques and measuring equipment.
Year Two:
Specific training in core areas to develop skills such as planning work activity, resources, equipment and tooling.
Year Three:
Developing your workshop skills using more focused techniques.
Year Four:
Working towards being a skilled Fitter and improving competence in a chosen speciality.

Working Week: 37hrs pw Mon-Fri (hours TBC)
Salary: Circa £17,500

Personal Qualities: We are looking for committed individuals who are keen to learn and progress through their apprenticeship, both from an academic and practical perspective, have ambition to achieve their best and have a good work ethic.
Skills Required: We are looking for individuals who are proactive, practically minded and with an interest in all things engineering. Any experience in using hand tools would be a real advantage.
Future Prospects: We have a proven track record in developing the skills and talents of our Apprentices.
The invaluable skills and qualifications obtained throughout their apprenticeship programme have enabled them to move through various roles within the company, for example Mechanical Fitter, and progress to positions such as Production Engineer.
Training to be provided: Engineering Fitter NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, EAL Engineering Technology Level 3 Diploma, BTEC or VRQ. Plus, English, Maths and ICT Functional Skills, Employee Rights and Responsibilities, Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. You will study a range of topics including Engineering and Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering Organisational Efficiency and Improvement
