Our People

Our business success is directly linked to the success of our people, and we are proud of the investment we make in ensuring they succeed and we continue to build a highly skilled and flexible workforce.

We give our staff access to everything from on-the-job skills development – such as specialised European welding, Lean, and Six Sigma – right through to MBAs. As just one example of our commitment, we have invested 26,000 hours – the equivalent of three weeks per person – in developing the skills of everyone working in our Nuclear division to NVQ Level 3.

We have an outstanding track record in recruiting talented graduates and apprentices who both benefit from our extensive continuing personal development programmes. Many also move rapidly through the ranks soon after joining Hayward Tyler and are able to achieve positions of real responsibility far more quickly than in other – often much bigger – engineering companies.

In 2015, we achieved Silver accreditation with Industrial Cadets, a programme working with UK-based employers to create a pipeline of talent while also helping young people aged between 11 and 19 develop their skills and confidence.

Ross Meikle
Quality Improvement Manager

Ross joined Hayward Tyler straight from Manchester Metropolitan University from where he graduated in 2011 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was promoted several times before moving to his current role, and has recently swapped places with a colleague from the US facility in Vermont.

‘My goal was to start on the shop floor, and the best thing about Hayward Tyler was that it gave me that grass roots engineering experience I was looking for.

‘You are offered the chance to deal with high-intensity, high-aspiring items – much more than you are in many other companies — and I have now worked on many high-end projects.

‘Hayward Tyler is willing to give young team members heavy responsibilities and offers the support we need to develop and succeed. For example, in 2013, I was named Young Manufacturer of the Year – something that would not have been possible without the company’s support.’
