The Technical Services Engineering Group (TSEG) provides critical engineering support to Hayward Tyler and its customers. The TSEG is comprised of engineers with a wide range of backgrounds and supports the design, manufacturing, and service of electrical motors and components, setup and maintenance of the test area and test equipment, root cause analysis and warranty review of customer equipment, troubleshooting and diagnostics of customer’s process and equipment both onsite and remotely, and operational excellence through the implementation and support of CAM software, leading process analysis and process improvement projects, and providing engineering support for continuous improvement projects.
Job Description and Duties:
Principal Duties
This is an entry-level engineering position for a candidate pursuing a career in engineering. The ideal candidate enjoys a hands-on role solving a wide variety of problems throughout the organization. This person must be a self-starter with strong communication skills as interaction with colleagues and customers is central to this role.
Activities will include working in a team environment with production technicians, mechanical, and hydraulic engineers to develop designs from concept through manufacture and test of the finished product. Engineering support activity spans the entire organization to include Design Engineering, Testing, Supply Chain, Operations Support, Manufacturing Support, and Customer Support. Tasks will include preparation of reports, drawings, and specifications, review of design specifications, and modifications and new product proposals will require development of sketches and CAD drawings.
Design – Under guidance from the Lead Engineer-Technical Services and Design Engineers, translate design specifications and specified electrical and test requirements into the requisite product design drawings and specifications. Prepare manufacturing drawings, specifications, contractual submittals, procedures, testing, and analytical reports.
Service Support – Provide technical assistance to Service Application Engineers personnel to resolve problems that arise in the manufacture of new motors and in the refurbishment, upgrade, and failure analysis of existing motors produced by Hayward Tyler. Prepare documentation of reverse engineering and refurbishment of motors produced by other OEMs to assure the specified design and contractual requirements are achieved.
Operations Support – Provide technical assistance to Operations personnel to resolve problems or improve efficiencies in all aspects of manufacturing through the development of process improvements, tooling, and process automation.
Manufacturing Support – Work with Senior Machinist, Quality, and Machining Team Lead to reduce machining hours, reduce inspection hours off the machine, increase first part accuracy, and reduce rework. This will require a working knowledge of SolidWORKS, SolidCAM, Renishaw software and machine controls. Serve as liaison between manufacturing and design engineering, and support DFM reviews and follow-up activities.
Customer Technical Support – Provide technical assistance to existing clients in the commissioning, operation, installation, and maintenance of equipment. Work closely with factory, field service, and customer representatives in accomplishing this task.
Product Test – Work closely with test personnel and Test Engineers in determining test requirements and developing test procedures. Assist in execution of pump and motor testing. Analyze data and prepare test reports.
Sales Technical Support – Assist Application Engineering, Sales, and Field Service Engineers in determining the appropriate application of equipment through interpretation of specifications. Assist with diagnostic and troubleshooting efforts through application review, data analysis, and troubleshooting to solve customer’s operational problems. Customer site visits may be required to perform these activities.
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
The ability to solve practical problems, interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral and schedule form, proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, strong organizational skills, work independently, meet deadlines and accuracy are essential.
Minimum Qualifications
• BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Electro-mechanical Engineering
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards and specifications
• Expected travel is up to 10% yearly
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong interpersonal, collaboration, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Detail oriented and highly motivated
• Possess high level of personal initiative
