The Staff Engineering group provides engineering support and expertise across all Value Streams within Hayward Tyler. This group supports business needs and continuous improvement efforts through thorough technical analysis and the application of engineering principles and methods. Staff Engineers are flexibly deployed as necessary to provide engineering support for tasks that are intermittent, infrequent, and difficult to predict but are critical to meeting customer commitments and the success of Hayward Tyler. Engineering activities include, but are not limited to, testing, stress analysis, reverse engineering, design engineering, root cause analysis, warranty claim investigation, pump system analysis, and manufacturing engineering/operations support.
Job Description and Duties
Staff Engineer I is an entry-level engineering position at Hayward Tyler for a candidate pursuing a career in Engineering. This individual, under the supervision of the Staff Engineering Supervisor and Engineering Manager will work independently and as part of project teams to solve problems and implement solutions across the entire Hayward Tyler organization. This position requires an individual with initiative, an interest in learning, and a flexible approach to respond to a wide variety of assignments and shifting priorities. Performance of these duties requires the use of sound engineering practice and adherence to company and regulatory procedures.
Responsibilities will include:
- Creating basic models and layouts from design engineer conceptual ideas
- Provide design layouts, solid models and develop manufacturing machining, fabrication, forging and casting design drawings
- Provide contract submittal documents to support our design team and clients
- Update and maintain design documents
- Assist application engineers in the preparation of proposal documentation
- Support Test Engineers in execution of testing activities
- Collect component dimensions and prepare models of same from service pumps and motors
- Assist other engineers in the diagnosis of failed or worn equipment or components
- Prepare engineering documentation
The successful candidate will be trained in Hayward Tyler’s engineering policies and procedures. Through assignments in the Aftermarket Value Stream, Design Value Stream, and Service Value Stream he/she will gain experience in the specific operations of each of these value streams while applying and developing their engineering skills. The ability to solve practical problems, work independently, apply critical thinking, and communicate effectively are essential.

- BS in Mechanical Engineering

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, standards, and specifications
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Detail oriented and highly motivated
- Possess high level of personal initiative
- SolidWorks experience a plus
